Don’t make it easy for thieves! |

Dear Resident, It’s going to be warm and sunny this weekend, please bear the following in mind to keep yourself and your property safe and secure: Think about open doors and windows - It’s important to remember which doors and windows have been unlocked and opened. Thieves will be on the look-out for any sneak-in opportunities. If a window is open and they can see something like a bag, keys, or purse inside, they may try and gain entry. If you are spending time in the back garden, ensure the front of the house is locked and windows are closed. Remember to double check any windows that may be hidden from sight, such as behind blinds. Don’t forget to check that your doors and windows are locked before leaving the house or going to bed at night. Keep hedges low – Avoid anything that may provide screening and hide what a criminal is up to. The more hidden they are, the longer the window of opportunity they may have to break into your property. Hostile planting could put someone off from climbing over your fence – prickly plants in your garden borders may provide a natural deterrent. For homeowners, using something as simple as gravel can be very effective for announcing the arrival of someone coming close to the house. Store valuables away in sheds/garages/outbuildings – The Top 5 most common items stolen from sheds/garages Always put tools/gardening equipment/bikes away securely when you have finished using them. Cover the glass to prevent offenders from being able to see the contents of the shed or garage or use frosted glass. Consider closed shackle padlocks as they protect your shed from being broken into with bolt croppers and saws.
